Truth

John 8:32-"Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

God is the foundation, is he not? Everything that you do should be based on the truth of God. Are you teaching that truth? It's important to teach our children the truth. That should go without saying. If your not teaching the truth then you must be teaching a lie. What is the truth? What properties must the truth have? How do you recognize the truth? What does the truth bring?

Some say the truth is relative. Relative to the individual. Take a look at the picture above. It's an optical illusion. What do you see? Some people see the silhouette of two people facing each other. Others see the shape of a vase. Some, like myself, see both. Let's say that I created this picture. And I know what the picture truthfully is. I ask two people what do they believe this is a picture of. Person A says that he believes it's a picture of a vase. Person B says that it's a silhouette of two people facing each other. Only one of their answers is true. You can make a good argument for each of their interpretations. Is this what they mean when they say that the truth is relative? I beg to differ. This is what they believe based on their perception of the picture. I have the knowledge to what it truthfully (not truly) is. Let's shed some light on the subject, literally and figuratively. Figuratively meaning the light as the source of information. Close your eyes, what do you see? Nothing. Your eyes still work, but there is no light to process information. Light being the knowledge that you have. Literally being that, since I have the negatives of the photo, we can use light to see what it actually is. Now A and B can argue to eternity of what they believe the picture is, I have the knowledge, the light, of what it truthfully is, and I can show and prove it. When I show the negatives to A and B, and they can see that it's a vase, now we can have an understanding.

Therefore, the truth brings about understanding. If what your talking about doesnt bring about understanding, and what they're talking about doesnt bring about understanding, then neither of you are speaking the truth. I'm not referring to a person whose being stubborn or ignorant. Like if I was to teach a person that 1+2=3 and they wanted to deny it, knowing that 1 =one object and 2 =two objects, and they know the sequence of numbers from 1-10. To get to understanding you have to start with knowledge. Understanding amongst the people, leads to an agreement amongst the people. How can you build with somebody if you cant understand them. That's the importance of speaking the truth.

The truth I liken to water. As Col Jessep told Kaffee in the movie A Few Good Men, you cant handle the truth. Some people just cant handle the truth. Like my physical father, he cant stand to drink water. He needs additives, flavoring, coloring, kool aid. Some people need a little additives in their truth. But when water no longer retains its original properties and characteristics, it becomes no longer water. If what you say is truth no longer holds its characteristics, such as giving knowledge and bringing about understanding, then it is no longer the truth. Again I'm referring to civilized intelligent people here.
Truth and true do not mean the same thing. They're spelled differently for one. Let's say I have five dollars in my pocket, and I tell you that I do. My statement may be true, but if you were to tell someone else, it would not be the truth. Because you havent seen it for yourself. It becomes the truth when it has been proven. So by you, even though you witnessed it, is better left unspoken to someone else. Only way you could prove it to them is by bringing them to me, or some scientific rationalization. When I showed you the five dollars, my words which were true, became the truth, to you. I knew it to be the truth, because I knew what I had in my pocket. When you accept something as true, without proof, it could be a lie. When you can prove it, it's the truth. Let's remember this when we profess that our way is the right way. If it doesnt bring about understanding, it aint the truth!

Peace
